Natural Stone is porous and must be sealed before it is used. The sealing lasts 3-5 years if properly cared for. The use of area rugs is highly recommended, but the rugs must be kept clean or the dirt will scratch your natural stone floor. Don’t use mats or rugs with rubber backing. Some mats can stain or discolor the stone. Natural stone floors should be dust mopped with a dry mop frequently. Do not use acids or vinegar or any household cleaner that contains lemon juice which can permanently etch your natural stone floor.
Always blot spills immediately. Be careful when moving heavy furniture across your natural stone floor. Scratching and chipping may occur and when this happens it is a permanent mar to your beautiful floor.
Each natural stone is different in its absorption level. Some are more porous than others which make the floor more susceptible to staining. It is also advisable to have some extra stone tiles available in case you need to replace any.
